Located in Wyke Regis, Dorset
Stonesthrow is a holiday cottage in Wyke Regis, Dorset, sleeping 6 and pet friendly with views over Portland Harbour, the Rodwell Trail and sandy beach on your doorstep
Stonesthrow lies right next to Portland Harbour on the south end of Wyke Regis with wonderful sea views over Portland Harbour and out to sea all the way around to Lulworth. The Rodwell Trail is right on your doorstep and provides a pretty walk into Weymouth past Sandsfoot Castle and Gardens where you can stop at the cafe for refreshments. This can all be enjoyed with your dog as Stonesthrow accepts one well behaved dog. A sandy beach in the calm harbour is just a minutes walk from your front door and is popular with the locals as it provided a safe place to swim with a very gently shelving bottom or if you get the tide right you can never be out of your depth if you don't stray too far out. Being within the harbour has its advantages in that unless it is very windy there will be no waves and if hot the water warms up far quicker than the open sea, so much so that sometimes in good summers it feels Mediterranean. Portland offers you beautiful coastal walks, some of the best sailing and windsurfing in Europe and the famous Portland Bill where you can visit the lighthouse and then watch the sea while having a cream tea. There are lots of coastal villages to explore in both directions including Abbotsbury, Burton Bradstock, West Bay, Charmouth and Lyme Regis towards the west and Osmington, Ringstead, West Lulworth, Kimmeridge and Swanage to the east.
The accommodation at Stonesthrow is over three floors and comprises of a first floor sitting room with doors leading out to the balcony with sea views and seating from which to enjoy them and equipped with a TV, DVD player, CD plater and WiFi enabled throughout. The kitchen/diner has an electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and dining table with seating for six. There are three bedrooms arranged as two twin rooms and an en suite double with bath, hand held shower, basin and toilet. The family bathroom has a shower, basin and toilet. A coy and highchair can be provided upon request.
Outside is a landscaped rear garden complete with furniture as well as the balcony off the lounge. There is off road parking for two cars. Your fuel, power, bed linen and towels are all included in the price.

A church has been at Wyke Regis since 1172 and the present church was built around the 1450's. Above the main door there is a carving of the Royal Arms of Henry VIII, said to have been brought here originally from Sandsfoot Castle which lies on the coast on the Wyke side of Portland Harbour and is well worth a visit, as is the cafe just a little further along from the castle.
The hub of the village is the square in what is called "Old Wyke" which hasn't really changed much in the last couple of hundred years and is every picturesque.
Wyke Regis lies along the Rodwell Trail, a track that follows the track bed of the Old Weymouth to Portland Railway line for just over two miles between Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth to just beyond Wyke Regis at Ferrybridge. It makes for a great walk with views to keep you company on route and is realtively level the length of the trail so a good way to get to Weymouth although there are a few beaches you could explore at the Wyke end too. The walk was featured on the BBCs 'Railway Walks' with Julia Bradbury.Read less
