Tree Tops is a beautifully quirky property set over three floors in the hamlet of Wakeham on Portland. Formerly two quarryman's dwellings dating back to the 1650s the cottages have been renovated to provide a surprising but pleasing holiday cottage experience. Tree Tops is fantastically positioned, having sea views from the master bedroom and a stones throw from Portland's oldest castle, Rufus Castle, dating from the late 15th century. Follow the path to the castle takes you to the best beach on the island in Church Ope Cove and some great coastal walks with stunning views along every stretch. Wakeham itself houses the Portland Museum, literally about a minutes walk away, and there are shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants all within walking distance.
The accommodation at Tree Tops comprises of a kitchen with breakfast area equipped with an electric range double oven with 5-ring hob, microwave, fridge/freezer as well as a range of accessories and utensils and a wonderful wood burning stove. A washing machine and tumble dryer are housed in an external utility area. The dining area also has a wood burner and has a table with seating for six. The garden room has a grape vine, double doors leading to the garden and sofas, chairs and table to relax in. The lounge is on the second floor and has a TV with Freeview, iPod docking station, Wi-Fi and a selection of books and games.
There are four bedrooms spread across the property with the master bedroom on the second floor which can be arranged as either a super king-size double or a twin depending on your needs. There is a double bedroom and two single bedrooms to take sleeping capacity up to six.
Outside is a beautiful garden, fully enclosed. complete with furniture. There is bike storage and it's worth noting an excellent bike/coffee shop within walking distance called Cycleccino. Tree Tops accepts one well behaved pet. There is on road parking close to the cottage and a free car park about 300 yards away. Your fuel, power, bed linen and towels are all included in the price.

Area details
Wakeham is full of traditional quarryman's cottages dating back two to three hundred years. Although a small area it is packed with interest. Pennsylvania castle was built in 1800 by John Penn, grandson of the founder of Pennsylvania, and is now a private residence. Just round the corner from this is the Portland Museum, Rufus Castle, the ruins of St Andrews Church with its "pirate" graves and onwards to Church Ope Cove.
Read moreThere are several good walks again from Wakeham including the two butterfly reserves within easy reach. A walk along the coast down to Portland Bill will take about 45 minutes depending on how long you stop to take in the views and the wildlife. Walks along the old railway line and back to the top of the island are also available from Wakeham.
The Hayloft Cafe is open throughout the summer season for coffees and light lunches. Otherwise, it is just a short walk into Easton where there are a number of choices or by car you can reach any of Portland's eating out establishments in under 5 minutes.
