Wakeham is full of traditional quarryman's cottages dating back two to three hundred years. Although a small area it is packed with interest. Pennsylvania castle was built in 1800 by John Penn, grandson of the founder of Pennsylvania, and is now a private residence. Just round the corner from this is the Portland Museum, Rufus Castle, the ruins of St Andrews Church with its "pirate" graves and onwards to Church Ope Cove.
