The Byre is one of three holiday properties at Smiths Farm, a non-working farm accessed at the end of a private driveway. The farmland and woods are a haven for wildlife including deer, badgers, foxes and buzzards. Although you are in a countryside location, Lyme Regis and Charmouth are just a couple of miles away so you are never far from a sandy beach. It will be difficult to pull yourself away from the beautiful countryside though as you will be staying in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You are right on the border between Devon and Dorset with Somerset not too far away to the north so it makes for an excellent location to explore all three counties, some wonderful countryside, quaint villages and the World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

The accommodation at The Byre is all on one level and comprises of an open plan living area with galley kitchen equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge with ice box and selection of utensils and accessories. The large lounge and dining area has a TV, DVD player, dining table with chairs for four, WiFi and picture windows and French doors leading outside. The bedroom has a super king size double bed and an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath, basin and toilet. There is also a second shower room with walk-in shower cubicle, basin and toilet. A cot and highchair can be made available upon request.

Outside there is a private patio area complete with garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue can also be provided upon request. There is off road parking for one car. Your fuel, power, bed linen and towels are all included in the price.

Area details


Lying at the mouth of the river Char and overlooking Lyme Bay stands Charmouth, hemmed in by the steep hills of Stonebarrow Hill to the east and to the west Black Venn. It is very picturesque and the National Trust controls significant portions of the scenic areas around the town. The area is noted for its fossils and is part of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The area has a rich history dating back to the Iron Age and has had many royal visitors including Catherine of Aragon and King Charles II. There are a number of buildings in the village with listed status with many dating back to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

Charmouth has two traditional pubs, The George and The Royal Oak as well as a number of cafes including The Old Bank Cafe, the Charmouth Fish Bar and Pizza Cafe and the Beach Cafe. Restaurants include the Fernhill Hotel, The White House Hotel, Hensleigh House Restaurant and Dining at Newlands.
